Travels on the NZ South Island

Well, I have been busy travelling around our beautiful South Island for the last couple of weeks with my husband. We started by heading over to the south on the ferry with the car. Now the car was pretty laden as we had GourmetQuilting delights aboard ready for a fabulous day with the Marlborough Quilters in Blenheim, where I gave a GourmetQuilter presentation and also set up a sales area, with others. We had a great day, thank you Marlborough Quilters for inviting me. blenheim After a delightful stay with our hostess Sharyn, we looked at the map and decided that Bluff was definitely on the way home! Now, for those of you who don't know our geography, I should mention that Blenheim is near the top of the South Island and Bluff is about as far south as you can go! So we headed west and down the coast, stopping along the way at many of the amazing scenic delights including a short cruise in Milford Sound and had a look at Bluff, this is an amazing country. We stayed a couple of days at Curio Bay where we met some extraordinary quilters, the Takitimu Quilters, which was an added, unexpected bonus, thanks so much for coming over to meet us. Curio Bay is a very picturesque bay with the added bonus of Hector dolphins playfully swimming around and encouraging us to join them, so here I am up close and loving it! I have never swum with dolphins before. dolphin Then we headed on through the Catlins area and went for a walk out to the Nugget Point lighthouse, a very exciting walk along cliff edges and hanging on to my hat as the wind was blowing! The sun was shining however and we had the most glorious views of the area. nuggetpointlighthouse We are still travelling for a few more days, then home again.
